As well as the empty calories, alcohol can be detrimental to your weight loss efforts for 3 other reasons.

 

1.  Alcohol lowers your inhibitions – research shows that drinking before or during meals lowers your inhibitions and will power. This can reduce your resistance to temptations and may cause you to over eat.

2. Alcohol is a diuretic – meaning that alcohol causes water loss and dehydration. Maintaining your hydration is integral to weight loss and weight maintenance, therefore limiting alcohol will be beneficial to your weight management plans.

3. Alcohol stimulates your appetite which may encourage you to eat more food.
