There is only one way to lose weight and that is to create a body fuel shortfall. This occurs when the amount of body fuel you consume is LESS than the body fuel you use.

Body Fuel In  We eat and drink foods to nourish and sustain our body through a complex process of digestion and absorption. Food provides us with energy to fuel our body and nutrients to help us grow and heal. The amount of body fuel a food provides us is measured in calories (or kilojoules). The more calories a food contains, the more body fuel it provides to our body.

Body Fuel Out  Our bodies require a certain amount of body fuel each day to function. This amount of body fuel is determined by 2 factors, Physical Activity and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

Weight Gain – The reason that people put on excess weight is that there is more food being eaten than the body needs. If more body fuel (calories) is eaten than is used, a body fuel imbalance exists. The body is not able to rid itself of excess calories so it stores energy in the form of fat. Weight gain through excess calorie consumption is theresult of an increase in body fat storage.

Weight Loss – in order to lose weight we must consume less body fuel than is required by the body to create a body fuel shortfall and there are only 3 ways to achieve this.

1. Reduce BODY FUEL IN by reducing your calorie intake,

2. Increase BODY FUEL OUT by increasing your physical activity to use more calories

3. Both of the above!
